Student Respect & Empowerment Office

Student-side advocacy is our mandate. If you’re not sure where to turn, reach out. We’re here to help.

About the Office

The Student Respect and Empowerment Office is a brand new branch of the UWSA. The role of the office is to support students who are facing charges or suspicions of academic and/or non-academic misconduct. Plagiarism, cheating, and behavioural code of conduct violations all fall under cases we can help with. Some of the services we provide are:

  • Helping students navigate the charges, complaints, hearings, and appeals process for
    academic and non-academic misconduct

  • Advocacy and representation in charges hearings and appeals

  • Mediating professor-student conflicts

  • Advising students of their rights when accused of misconduct

  • Mitigating student complaints against professors

  • Provide students with additional supports, resources, and referrals

  • Help students navigate and deal with sanctions

Whether it means helping you access resources, or being your defense advocate through the misconduct charges and complaints process, the SREO coordinator is here to support students

FAQ

  • The SREO serves all UWSA members: full-time undergraduate students, law students, and other member-faculties

  • We’re currently running 100% remotely until further notice. To access the office, contact us at sreouwsa@uwindsor.ca. Stay tuned to learn where our physical space will be established!

  • Year-round. The coordinator’s working hours vary, but we aim to respond to all inquiries and cases within 48 business hours.

  • It depends what kind of case you’ve got. If it’s a complaint about a professor, you have the option to contact the department head of the professor’s faculty. If it’s a matter of non-academic misconduct, or a complaint about another student, you can contact the non-academic misconduct intake coordinator, adebobye@uwindsor.ca. If these don’t apply to your case, you can also try reaching out to the Office of Student Experience, the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, or the Office of Human Rights, Equity, and Accessibility.

  • I have a complaint about a professor/ staff/ another student, but I don’t want them to know it was me who made the complaint. Can I remain anonymous?

  • Here you can find the university’s policies on academic integrity and the student behavioural code of conduct: https://www.uwindsor.ca/academic-integrity/

  • We assist all UWSA members, regardless of the charge or complaint against you. There are some situations when a different office might be the primary office that handles your case, but we can still help refer you to relevant resources and provide you with support.
