Vice President of Student Advocacy

My experience as a Blue and Gold Coordinator for the UWSA, VP External for Crafting for a Cure, Logistics Coordinator for Science Society, and Recruitment Coordinator for Relay for Life has significantly developed my interpersonal and management skills, making me well-equipped for the position of Vice President Student Advocacy on the UWSA. In my role as Blue and Gold Coordinator, I have helped coordinate campus-wide events, working closely with UWSA staff and the strong team of executives who have ensured seamless execution of these events. This has taught me how to engage and communicate effectively with both students and faculty, a vital skill for advocacy and management. As VP External for Crafting for a Cure, I built relationships with external partners, understanding the importance of professional networking. My time as Logistics Coordinator for Science Society honed my organizational skills, managing complex schedules and resources while prioritizing tasks under pressure. Additionally, as a recruitment coordinator for Relay for Life, I have had the opportunity to enhance my leadership abilities, as I encourage participation and cultivate a sense of shared purpose among attendees and volunteers. These roles strengthened my ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics, learn about diverse opinions, and advocate for the needs of students above all else. The connections I have made across the student community has also given me a broader perspective on the issues facing students, which will be invaluable in ensuring effective advocacy as VP Student Advocacy on the UWSA.

As Vice President Student Advocacy for the UWSA, I would focus on increasing awareness and accessibility of the various centers provided by the UWSA on campus, ensuring that students know what resources are available to them. By collaborating closely with the center coordinators, I would advocate for the needs of students and work alongside them to implement improvements based on both feedback and my own observations. My involvement with the UWSA and interactions within the campus have given me valuable insight into what is working well and what could be enhanced. One of my key initiatives would be to ramp up both physical and social media promotions to increase awareness of these centers. Many students aren’t fully aware of the services available to them, and I believe that by targeting this gap, we can better support the diverse populations at our school. Another important initiative I would undertake is advocating for the accessibility and visibility of the University of Windsor’s polling station during the upcoming federal election in October 2025. The University of Windsor is part of the Vote on Campus program, a program that brings polling stations into post-secondary institutions across Canada in order to provide an easy way for students to vote in official Canadian government elections. As the Vice President Student Advocacy, I would ensure that students are fully aware of this opportunity to vote on campus, emphasizing the significance of using their voice both in national politics and within their university community.

Throughout my time as Blue and Gold Coordinator, I have had the privilege of working with many different members of the UWSA, which has shown me the immense value of positive relationships within the board, with members at large, and with the UWindsor administration. I have seen firsthand how efficient and enjoyable the work environment can be when people work well together, and I would prioritize this during my term as VP Student Advocacy. Ensuring proper bonding between board members and staff is crucial, and I plan to implement team-building activities that strengthen these connections, collaboration and open communication. In addition, my involvement in multiple clubs and societies on campus has allowed me to build strong, positive relationships across different student communities. Although my role as VP Student Advocacy would demand significant time and commitment to the UWSA, I would continue to support these groups by staying engaged in smaller council/club positions, allowing me to remain connected with students and encourage student collaboration across campus. I am also eager to work alongside UWindsor administration and learn how to improve relationships between students and the administration. Positive work relationships are built on communication, compassion, and mutual respect, and I would lead by example in upholding these values. By prioritizing these principles, I believe I can help facilitate a collaborative environment that fosters trust and positive outcomes for both the UWSA and the university community as a whole.

The UWSA is crucial in ensuring that students have a voice on campus, have meaningful undergraduate experiences through events and proceedings, and are supported in both their academic and personal journeys. It provides a platform where students can advocate for themselves, access essential resources, and have their concerns addressed in a meaningful way. The UWSA is not just an organization—it’s a community that empowers students to actively participate in shaping their university experience. A recent experience highlighted the importance of this support. I faced a situation where my professor had gone against their outlined syllabus, which led to negative feedback from many students enrolled in the course. In response, I reached out to the head of the department to advocate for myself and my classmates. During this process, I utilized resources provided by the UWSA, specifically the guidance from the current VP Student Advocacy. Their support helped me navigate the situation with confidence, and I was able to achieve a positive resolution. This experience showed me firsthand how powerful student advocacy can be and how critical the UWSA is in supporting students through challenges. It also inspired me to run in the 2025 general election, as I want to work alongside students to achieve their own positive resolution in the face of adversity. I hope to increase awareness of UWSA resources and their importance by successfully advocating for students across all faculties, ensuring that everyone has the tools to make their voices heard and affect positive change.
