Shine Day a Success
Over 150 students gathered on Saturday, September 10 for Shine Day, a fundraising event hosted by Shinerama to help fight cystic fibrosis (CF). Shine Day was an opportunity for students to meet other friends, see the city and help out a great cause. Donations collected on Shine Day were given to Cystic Fibrosis Canada to further research and work towards a cure for this common and fatal, hereditary disease.
Students started the day in Residence Quad where they grabbed their t-shirts, materials and were served a complimentary breakfast. The excitement in the room was amazing! Our Shinerama Coordinator, Jessica Tetreault-Fazio gave the opening remarks and then we heard Emma’s CF story and understand the importance of raising awareness for the disease. .headed on a bus towards the city!
There were several shine sites, including car washes at the Jiffy Lube on Dougal, Giglios Market on Wyandotte and Leons Furniture on Division. There was also face painting at Halloween Alley on Walker, Giant Tiger on Tecumseh and Harvey’s on Wyandotte. There was no shortage of fun and everyone was in great spirits during this fabulous shining Shine Day.
At the end of the day, students came back to campus for a celebratory BBQ. All the hard work paid off as there was more money raised this year compared to last year’s Shine Day! Stay tuned to find out how much!
