In my high school I was a Student athletic council president so I understand how to plan activities like a pep rally and pink game and many more. Additionally and have an understanding of talking to higher-ups like a principal and also surveying the rest of the school to see what kind of events they want. I also had to have school spirit to cheer on our athletic teams and make sure the crowd or our school was hyped at games. I became popular at my school due to how loud I was at the game screaming our chants like H WHAT and the crowd would respond HT so I know what it takes to make sure a group of people get excited about school spirit. I was also part of a program called SHIELD in high school where we helped incoming students with helping understanding schedules and where classes are additionally planned events and well-executed activities. In this program, I also had to be very welcoming and very easy to talk to if anyone had any problems or feedback for the school. I was also a camp counselor so I had to plan and create creative activities so I know how to think creatively and follow through on the ideas.
I would like to try and run something like an Amazing Race Canada around campus because I feel like it would be a fun experience that a lot of people would be interested in. Additionally to this, I feel like the amazing race would bring fun memories to those who partake in this activity. Another idea I would also want is around midterms or just in general have a certain day that if we could therapy dogs or animals come in to calm and improve the school climate for those who need it. I think it’s a great idea because other students will feel better and also feel less stressed about mid-term stressful assignments or tests etc.
I plan to be a valuable asset and not be afraid to maybe step outside my comfort zone if needed as I have done in the past. I also plan to be myself and be kind and respectful to others’ ideas and understand that there are many ways to look at a certain issue or idea or plan. Another thing I plan on doing is being on time because I understand how valuable someone’s time is whether or not that’s at events planning events or in meeting with higher-ups or other members. I will also be very appreciative of everyone who helps me with the things I do from a big task to a small task. Lastly, I will be very vocal about my needs for things like my projects or initiatives as well as be able to be vocal if I need to be for the student voice of the university so then they are heard so we can make change if needed.
The Importance of the UWSA in my opinion is a group run by students for students and to try to improve the schools climate and culture. The UWSA is very important to school culture due to this being a student ran group on campus. So we as students know what the climate is and so then the UWSA would know how to boost and improve it better than if it is a professor-ran group who might not understand exactly what the students need or want. If the UWSA did not exist then it would be hard for a good student experience because of the UWSA they plans fun events or useful events for the students. This helps and boost students’ morale when someone could possibly need it and provides a fun experience and memory that can last a lifetime and so they can look back at their university years and remember very fondly and be proud that they chose to be a lancer.
