UWSA – University of Windsor Students' Alliance

Vivian Azouz

Running for Vice President Student Advocacy (VPSA)

Outline your relevant experience for this position

For the past few years I have been working with a team to build positive working environments at my two previous jobs. I worked with others to make sure that the administration part of a medical clinic is running smoothly. As a senior staff, I had first hand experience with advocating for co-workers and training junior staff. Sitting on student council in high school also contributes, because as vice president I worked with the exec team as well as others to create a positive environment. I also sat in the exec team of the Palestinian Solidarity Group on campus which helped me develop more team working skills I can use in this position.

What specific initiatives and projects would you undertake related to this role?

An initiative that I have been very passionate about for the past few year is bringing more cultural awareness to the university campus. This year I have been a part of the Palestinian Solidarity Group which has helped me to educate myself more on not only the Palestinian community but the Middle Eastern community as a whole. I would also like to implement more meetings one on one with the representatives of all the different cultural groups on campus so I can listen to the student for the change they want to see. Another initiative that I have been passionate about high school is implementing ASL into the university campus, the university used to have ASL classes and I would like to work on bringing those back to help bring awareness to the deaf community on campus. Growing up with a deaf uncle has really changed my perspective and I would like to show others how it can change theirs.

How do you plan on facilitating positive work relationships within the UWSA Board, members at large and UWindsor administration?

I intend to be approachable, letting my personality shine through in my work and relationships, professional, organized with my tasks, prioritizing my attendance and presence in conversations during large meetings, and constantly keeping in mind the viewpoint of the students and how I think we can improve. I believe that developing personal connections is essential, so I will make an effort to assist other committees and members with their assignments so that UWSA as a whole is prepared to assist our campus community. When dealing with others, I’ll make an effort to do my very best so that we may develop positive working relationship
