2023 UWSA GENERAL ELECTION

Chaitanya Nair

Running for Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science Representative

Outline your relevant experience for this position

As a first year psychology student I have been navigating and familiarizing myself with different clubs on campus to interact with students and faculty members. I have been a volunteer at the Hospice for 3 years and I also volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society off campus. I led the Youth troop at my high school which enabled me to significantly improve my leadership, decision making skills etc. I believe these skills I have developed and the passion I hold for any responsibility given to me will allow me to excel in this role.

What specific initiatives and projects would you undertake related to this role?

Coming into psychology I would like to provide opportunities for students to discover new passion and pathways in my faculty. I think it’s important for incoming students especially to receive as an exposure as to what this degree could lead them into and the different pathways that open up to them. I would also focus on empowering and encouraging students to find their unique skills and a club they feel a part of. I believe that finding “what makes you unique” will enable you to flourish during your time here at uwindsor. I am currently in the process of establishing a new Club to not only represent but also celebrate our diversity and make students feel at home at uwindsor.

How do you plan on facilitating positive work relationships within the UWSA Board, members at large and UWindsor administration?

I plan on facilitating positive work relationships by focusing on listening and encouraging any board members and students to voice out their opinions and concerns. It is my top priority to create a comfortable space for everyone to provide an opportunity to express their ideas and thoughts. In order to help students at large it is important as an organization to have effective communication within and I plan on building good communication and relationships within the board members.

Describe the importance of the UWSA in your own words

The UWSA plays an important role in every students University experience. It provides a platform that represents students voice and welcomes introducing every student to their unique University years. I plan on making it a memorable experience for every university student and become a voice for not only my faculty but any student in need!
