Hey Lancers,
We’ve seen the incredible demand for the UWSA Welcome Week “Lancerpalooza” evening events and we know students are eager to get out—some you for the first time in over a year, and some of you for the first time, period. It is our number one priority to not only make sure we are sticking with our commitment to improve your student experience, but to also deliver these experiences safely.
With that in mind in conjunction with updates from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, we’ve decided to postpone our evening events until we can employ a strong health & safety plan based on the standard of care we’ve built with our UWindsor campus partners and that also builds on the current health measures set in place by local, provincial, and federal jurisdictions that ensures the health & safety of our students and staff.
We understand this is disappointing. When we started planning these events over a month and a half ago, it was with the anticipation that Ontario would be able to return to business as usual, but things are changing rapidly here in our community, we acknowledge that, and are taking a proactive approach which ultimately led to this decision.
However, there are more great events being hosted by the UWSA throughout the week of Welcome Week (Sept 4th to 9th) that we’re able to deliver safely to UWindsor students, and we encourage you to visit www.uwsa.ca/welcomeweek for the full details.
We would also like to emphasize that these events are not being organized by or in collaboration with UWindsor or on the institution’s behalf. The University of Windsor Students’ Alliance is a separate established entity that operates at UWindsor that serves all full-time undergraduate students and is led exclusively by students at UWindsor.
Until then, we encourage all students to get vaccinated before committing to participation in any in-person events at UWindsor or off-campus or attending UWindsor campus for any reason, and to please stay home if you are sick.
