The UWSA expresses its deepest sympathies to all those affected by the recent tragedy in Beirut, Lebanon. A nation already suffering through a difficult economic crisis is now moved by this shocking event for which there is a devastating extent of damage – hundreds dead, thousands injured, and hundreds of thousands homeless. We are continuing to monitor this situation, mourn the tragic loss of life, and stand with the people of Lebanon during this difficult time.
We will be supporting organizations that are focused on disaster relief and emergency medical response during this time. Please join us by donating to the Lebanese Red Cross (@lebaneseredcross) if you are able.
We are committed to supporting students by any means during this time. If you are a student in need of support during these times, you can access free 24/7 call/text counselling through the My Student Support Program (MySSP) app, or through the Student Counselling Student Centre, which is taking virtual appointments. As students return for a primarily virtual fall term, our Peer Support Centre will also be supporting and reinforcing our commitment to building a student community of wellness and care.
Canadians in Beirut who are in need of emergency consular assistance can also contact +1-613-996-8885 or sos@international.gc.ca. No matter who or where we are, we are always a Lancer family that cares for and supports each other. Take care, Lancers.
