What is Shinerama?
Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary school fund-raiser, involving students from more than 60 universities and colleges. The campaign, which began in 1964, has raised almost $18.5 million to help fund cystic fibrosis (CF) research and treatment programs. The University of Windsor has been involved in Shinerama since 1968 and has raised over $170,000 for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
What is the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF)?
The objectives of the CCFF include:
Conducting research into improved care and treatment of CF, and seeking a cure or effective control for cystic fibrosis
Promoting CF public awareness
Raising funds for these purposes
What is cystic fibrosis (CF)?
Cystic fibrosis (CF), which affects the lungs and the digestive system. Cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease among young Canadians. One in 25 Canadians are carriers of the cystic fibrosis gene. In Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia all newborns will be screened for cystic fibrosis.
