UWSA Hiring Academic Advocate

The UWSA and the University of Windsor is pleased to announce the hiring of the Academic Advocate for the 2010–2011 academic year.

The successful candidate will join the office as a co-Academic Advocate and will be employed on a part time basis during the academic year. This is a paid position. The position is open to all students of the University of Windsor who will attend the university in the 2010–2011 academic year. Successful candidates will have a working knowledge of University bylaws and procedures, demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, and will be a self-starter.
Responsibilities

  • Promote the understanding and application of the University of Windsor’s By-laws.
  • Advise and assist students in matters related to academic discipline or other academic rights matters, including but not limited to: guiding students through the appeal process and advising students on their academic rights.
  • Provide students information on their rights and responsibilities, as well as procedures to resolve academic or non-academic issues.
  • Receive and refer complainants to other campus resources as appropriate.
  • Facilitate the investigation of any concerns or complaints presented by a student, former student or applicant.
  • Review policies, procedures, regulations, rules, and criteria and recommend any changes thereto that are necessary to ensure prompt decision making, appropriate procedures and protection of the rights of students.
  • Provide assistance to students who are appealing an academic or disciplinary action and are appearing before a residence, faculty, Senate or University committee.
  • Liaise with administration, staff, faculty, and student groups as appropriate.
  • Report to stakeholders for the purposes of reviewing conduct, reporting trends, and recommending changes as appropriate.
