The UWSA executives are the main decision making students on campus and have a huge say at what will happen with your money, time, and resources throughout the year. They are chosen in our annual general election in March and change every year. This year’s executives are:

UWSA President

Welcome to the University of Windsor! My name is Laine McGarragle and I will be serving you as President of the University of Windsor Student Alliance (UWSA) 2010/2011. My job is to be a powerful voice for students when working with administration, faculty and staff, to oversee the University of Windsor Student Alliance, which provides students with countless services and to ensure that the student experience on the University of Windsor campus is the best that it can possibly be.

Some of my experience that is relevant to my position includes: serving on the University of Windsor Senate, as Chair of External Policy Committee of the UWSA, on the Academic Policy Committee of the University Senate, as a UWSA Council Member, as the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance Campus Coordinator for the UWSA. I have also successfully lobbied Members of Provincial Parliament on behalf of University students.

The UWSA works to protect student rights through its free-of-charge provision of a student Academic Advocate. It works to represent the student interest at Windsor through voicing student concern to various bodies within and outside of our campus. The UWSA is responsible for shaping policy which impacts the day-to-day life of students. It provides funding for clubs and societies on campus and the UWSA hosts innumerous student-centered events. Check out the UWSA website for a full list of our services for students.

I have and will continue to consistently speak up for students while administration or faculty may hold opposing views. I will fight against Senate proposals that would decrease Windsor’s academic standards while encouraging and bringing forward innovative ideas to enhance our university. My executive team and I have set new goals for the UWSA in terms of increased transparency and inclusiveness of the student body. We are looking to offer students a high quality experience while working to maintain cost-effective services for our constituents.

One of the many exciting new developments around the UWSA is the implementation of ‘open office hours.’ My executive crew and I will be opening our offices on a specific day each week to personally meet with students and to discuss their concerns regarding our Alliance. We were elected to serve the students and this initiative will help us to more effectively represent the true student voice at Windsor. The UWSA is looking for input and involvement from the student body. Please come out and enjoy all of the fantastic events that our student alliance will be hosting for you.

I hope you are as excited as I am to be at the University of Windsor!

My name is Robert Woodrich and for the next year, I will be your Vice President University Affairs. This is my second term in the position, and I am very excited to be back.

My job is to work for you, the full-time undergraduate student body, by representing you on various committees and by working to uphold your rights as students. I will advocate for you on both a provincial and federal level, and this will be done in numerous ways. I will work to craft policies, promote campaigns, travel to conferences on your behalf and work with the two lobby organizations to which the UWSA belongs, CFS (Canadian Federation of Students) and OUSA (Ontario Undergraduate Students’ Alliance). Furthermore, I will work alongside the Academic Advocates, who will ensure that our students are provided with the highest quality level of advocacy and representation possible.

Being a student is hard work, so don’t hesitate to contact me if you ever need help appealing a grade, figuring out how to get involved or you’d like to speak with someone. You’re always welcome to call or email me, and my door is never closed to students. We’re located on the second floor of the CAW Student Centre, so come and pay us a visit.

Hello there, and welcome to the University of Windsor!

I hope that your summer was jam-packed full of fun and relaxation, but even more importantly, that you’re prepared for a year full of brand new friends and amazing experiences.

My name is Andrew Bell, and I’m Vice-President of Administration for your University of Windsor’s Student Alliance. I will be spending my time attempting to enhance your experience here as a student and dealing with the administrative components of the UWSA as a corporation. I am responsible for running events across campus for students – including the incredible Windsor Welcome Week – and for advocating on behalf of campus issues including parking, residence, food services, athletics and safety. I am here to make sure you have the best experience possible while at the University of Windsor!

We will always be looking for volunteers for our programs, and we will be looking for students to run in our fall by-elections for Council as well. There are hundreds of clubs and societies across campus, so don’t be afraid to get out there and get involved! Your experience will be as great as you’re willing to make it, so make it the best it can be.

Please don’t hesitate to come and visit me in my office in the Student Centre, or send me an email. I’m looking forward to meeting as many of you as I possibly can, and working with you to make this year the best it can be.

Don’t stop believing in the potential for your future.
