N.B. Election’s Office comments are in italics and are binding.
Dates:
Referenda shall be conducted in the period beginning on February 1st, and ending March 31st of the same academic year. The unit seeking ancillary support shall be responsible for financing the referendum.
The Elections Office will only be accepting referendums for the 2010 General Election.
Notice:
In any instance of referendum, notice should be supplied as early as possible in order to allow the budgetary unit ample time and resources to support the increase in the University community at large.
The Elections Office will require notice of all referenda by February 1, 2010 at 4:00pm.
The referenda question shall be presented to UWSA Council February 4, 2010 for review.
Quorum:
A quorum of 5% of all students from within each student body, shall be required for a valid referendum result.
Majority:
50% of a quorate vote shall carry a motion to increase an existing fee.
60% of a quorate vote shall carry a motion to levy a new fee.
The Elections Office will require a petition of 5% of all students from within each student body to be presented to the UWSA Chief Returning Office in order to affirm validity of the question being presented to the Members.
Student body means either full-time undergraduate, part-time undergraduate or graduate.

N.B. The term “student body” refers to each individual faculty, however due to precedence and common practise and pursuant discretionary jurisdiction of the Elections Office the current referendum will construe “student body” to mean either full-time undergraduate, part-time undergraduate or graduate membership.
